In a Blink: We discontinue offering support for the Blinkist app on Android devices running Android 5 & 6 from April 12th 2021. This means that users with the Android versions 5 & 6 on their Android device won't be able to update to Blinkist app versions higher than 8.9.2.
Why?
With new devices coming out each year, sometimes it can be hard to keep up with the speed at which technology advances. In order to provide our Android users with the best Blinkist app experience, we've decided to stop supporting Android 5 & 6.
We'll no longer be able to fix any issues that are reported on Android devices running these versions.
Anything you need to do?
We advise our Android users running 5 or 6 to upgrade to a higher Android version, ideally the latest version of the operating system - Android 11. By doing this you'll gain access to all the latest updates and features - giving you the best experience of the Blinkist app!
What's the new minimum supported Android OS?
The minimum requirement for Android devices supported by the Blinkist app is Android 7.
What if your device doesn't support this?
There won't be an immediate effect for you on versions 5 & 6, however, we recommend upgrading to a newer version of the Android operating system.
If your device doesn't support any of the new Android versions, you should know that:
New features will not be supported on devices running version 5 & 6.
Existing Blinkist users on versions 5 or 6 will be able to continue using the Blinkist app version 8.9.2, even after April 12th 2021. However, we won't be able to fix any bugs on that version.
As of August 2023 the Blinkist app version 8.9.2 can't be downloaded any more in the Play Store.
